Kaua e pupuri i tō ake kete, whangai atu ki te ao
Don’t hold it in your own basket, feed it out to the world

For over 20 years Joan has been sharing her passion and love for te reo Māori to ignite speaking, understanding and confidence in others through her work with individuals and organisations.

Her teaching style is relaxed, encouraging and playful.
She has a strong initial focus on mastering pronunciation to create the foundation for a heartfelt connection to what is being said. Everyday terms, phrases and basic conversations sustain the growing confidence of learners within the relaxed and supportive atmosphere that she is committed to nurturing.

As participants move onto grammar, a window is created into how a culture thinks – which is further supported by discussions on Māori world view.

Her background in theatre, has inspired a fresh, flexible and fun teaching style of supporting others to learn. Even complex aspects of grammar can be more engaging when explained through light-hearted, easy-to-remember storytelling. Her approach is loaded with playful tips. There is always room for laughter.
