Our residency programmes offer time, space and support for Wellington based creative professionals to develop their practice.

 
 

sonic art

CNZ, Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and New Zealand School of Music Te Kōkī offer this 12 week residency. It comes with a studio, stipend, access to various equipment and resources, culminating in an exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery and/or a series of public programmes. dance

This Dance Residency offers dance studio rehearsal space, financial and practical support, along with access to experienced mentors. The next call for applications will be December 2024 - February 2025.

production design

A residency for an emerging production designer, working in Set Design for Dance Theatre. They will receive a studio at Toi Pōneke and a research and development stipend for 25 hrs a week for 5 weeks, to develop a new project with our resident choreographer over April/June 2023. They will also have access to a paid design mentor. The next call for applications will be December 2024 - February 2025.

screenwriter

Known as The Write Room Residency this opportunity is for a Wellington based screenwriter with a feature film project. It gives support to develop and complete a draft script. film producer intern

This internship offers an emerging Wellington film producer the opportunity to observe and learn from an experienced director, producer and screenwriter as part of the Toi Pōneke Write Room Screenwriting Residency.Find out more about the Film Producer Internship -->

Visual Art

A 12 week residency providing the selected artist with a studio space, stipend, and exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery. This residency encourages the artist to develop a new body of work, and provides them with the resources to dedicate themselves full time to their practice. d/Deaf and/or Disabled artist

A 6 week residency providing the selected artist with a studio space, stipend, mentor. This residency provides d/Deaf and or disabled artists access to resources and support to develop a new body of work. Find out more about the /ddeaf-andor-disabled-residency.

māori arts

The Māori Arts residency is aligned to our Aho Tini strategy. It offers the selected artist a studio space and practical support. It encourages the artist to evolve their art practice and experiences. Part of the residency is to work with the Māori arts community and to assist in Māori communications, and is a first step towards future developments of reimaging Toi Pōneke.
