Toi Pōneke Arts Centre are pleased to announce Thomas Coppell as the Write Room Film Producer Intern for 2020.
Thomas is an emerging cross-media Producer with a dedication to good storytelling, unique voices and visual eye candy. He has diverse experience in film, animation, TV and web series, having started his indie career producing award winning short, Shmeat.
Thomas’ production company Tomorrow, Rain, focuses on content with a “double shot of diversity”. Recent projects have included working with creative collective The Candle Wasters producing queer rom-com musical, Happy Playland, and webseries/webcomic hybrid Tragicomic, and producing animated pilot Into The Pickle Jar for TVNZ OnDemand with long time collaborator Matasila Freshwater.
Thomas’ background also includes writing and producing te reo Māori puppet show Huhu for Māori Television, and developing TVNZ Docudrama, Doubt: The Scott Watson Case during his time at ProductionShed.TV.
This internship offers an emerging film producer the opportunity to observe and learn from an experienced director, producer and screenwriter as part of the Toi Pōneke Write Room Screenwriting Residency.
As part of this project, the emerging producer will be able to ‘window in’ on how a script is developed to gain a deeper understanding of the creative process and how to work with a writer to develop storyline. The intern will also be involved with the selection process of the writer for the 2020 residency.
Toi Pōneke Art Centre currently run four Residency Programmes to support Wellington based arts practitioners across a variety of mediums.
A Sound Art Residency in partnership with Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, a Dance Residency and a Visual Arts Residency. For more information on their support and opportunities. https://toiponeke.nz/support-and-opportunities
